Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Academic Advisor to join our Student Services team at the Fremantle campus. This role is crucial in supporting students’ academic journeys from enrolment through to graduation. The Academic Advisor will provide guidance on course selection, academic planning, study strategies, and university policies, ensuring students have the resources and support needed to succeed. This is an on-site position vital for fostering a supportive and engaging campus environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive academic advising to undergraduate and postgraduate students, including course planning, degree progression, and elective choices.
- Assist students in understanding and navigating university policies, procedures, and academic regulations.
- Monitor student academic progress, identify students at risk, and implement proactive intervention strategies.
- Refer students to appropriate university support services such as counselling, disability services, and learning support.
- Conduct orientation sessions and workshops on academic success strategies.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in the university's student information system.
- Collaborate with faculty and administrative departments to ensure accurate and up-to-date information regarding courses and programs.
- Participate in outreach events, open days, and student recruitment activities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Counselling, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in academic advising or student support services within a higher education setting.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
- Strong understanding of student development theories and best practices in academic advising.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
- Proficiency in using student information systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
- Experience with online advising platforms and remote student engagement.
- Knowledge of the Australian higher education system and relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Experience in developing and delivering academic success workshops.
