Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Food Service Assistant to join our vibrant team in Murray Bridge. In this essential role, you will be responsible for providing high-quality food service to residents in our aged care facility and potentially supporting hospital catering operations. You will play a crucial part in ensuring our residents receive nutritious, appealing meals and a positive dining experience. This role requires adherence to strict food safety and hygiene standards, strong teamwork, and a warm, empathetic approach to our residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and serving of meals and beverages, adhering to dietary requirements and preferences.
  • Ensure all food preparation and serving areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Collect and wash dishes, cutlery, and kitchen utensils using dishwashers or manual methods.
  • Set up dining areas, including tables, chairs, and place settings, prior to meal times.
  • Clear dining areas after meals, assisting residents as needed.
  • Monitor food temperatures and maintain accurate records as per food safety guidelines.
  • Interact respectfully and empathetically with residents, understanding their needs and preferences.
  • Stock and replenish kitchen and pantry supplies efficiently.
  • Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and WHS requirements.

Required Skills

  • Proven ability to follow food safety and hygiene protocols (HACCP preferred).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate approach.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Reliability and punctuality are essential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in food service, particularly within a hospital, aged care, or healthcare setting.
  • Current Food Safety Certificate (Level 1 or 2).
  • Understanding of special dietary requirements (e.g., diabetic, texture modified).
