Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Hydrologist Intern to join our dynamic Water Resource Management team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in various aspects of hydrology, water resource planning, and environmental management within a major regional water utility. The intern will support critical projects aimed at monitoring, assessing, and managing water resources to ensure long-term sustainability and meet the needs of our growing community and environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the collection, processing, and analysis of hydrological data, including rainfall, river flows, and groundwater levels.
  • Support the development and maintenance of hydrological models and databases.
  • Contribute to water resource assessments, forecasting, and reporting activities.
  • Participate in field investigations, including site visits for data collection and monitoring equipment maintenance.
  • Research and compile information on water quality, environmental flows, and climate change impacts on water resources.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and summaries of hydrological findings.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and other team members on water management projects.
  • Learn and apply relevant industry standards, policies, and regulations in water resource management.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Hydrology, Environmental Science, Water Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of hydrological principles and water resource management concepts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Enthusiasm for environmental sustainability and water resource management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Experience with hydrological modeling software (e.g., MUSIC, URBS, RORB) or statistical analysis tools (e.g., R, Python).
  • Prior experience in data collection or fieldwork.
  • Knowledge of Australian water policies and regulations, particularly within Victoria.
