Job Description
Are you seeking a unique, hands-on role in a distinctive agricultural setting? Turi Foods is looking for dedicated and resilient individuals to join our team as an Emu/Ostrich Farm Labourer in Dandenong, Victoria. This is an exciting opportunity to work with magnificent birds, contributing to their welfare and the efficient operation of a specialized farm. Key Responsibilities
- Feeding and watering emus and ostriches according to strict schedules and dietary plans.
- Monitoring bird health and behavior, reporting any anomalies to the farm supervisor.
- Assisting with routine health checks, vaccinations, and other veterinary procedures.
- Cleaning and maintaining enclosures, barns, and common farm areas to high hygiene standards.
- Collecting and handling eggs with care, ensuring proper storage and transportation.
- Assisting with fence repairs, general farm maintenance, and property upkeep.
- Operating farm machinery and equipment safely, after proper training (e.g., tractors, quad bikes).
- Adhering to all animal welfare guidelines and biosecurity protocols.
- Participating in all aspects of farm operations as required, including seasonal tasks.
Required Skills
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Genuine interest in animal welfare and agricultural work.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently or as part of a team.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record-keeping.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transport to the farm location (essential).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with poultry or other large livestock.
- Knowledge of basic farm safety procedures.
- First Aid certification.
- Forklift license (desirable, but training can be provided).
