Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Vet Lab Technician to join our diagnostic laboratory team in Toowoomba. In this role, you will play a crucial part in processing and analyzing a wide range of veterinary samples, including blood, urine, tissues, and other bodily fluids. You will operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment, perform various tests, and accurately record results. This position requires a strong understanding of laboratory procedures, a commitment to quality control, and a passion for contributing to animal healthcare outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests on veterinary samples (hematology, chemistry, microbiology, parasitology, urinalysis, cytology).
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting minor issues.
  • Prepare samples for analysis, including centrifugation, staining, and culturing.
  • Accurately record and report test results using laboratory information systems.
  • Adhere to strict quality control procedures and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory inventory and ordering supplies.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations and laboratory protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with pathologists, veterinarians, and other lab personnel.

Required Skills

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Veterinary Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a diagnostic laboratory, preferably veterinary.
  • Proficiency in performing a variety of lab tests (e.g., hematology, chemistry, microbiology).
  • Strong understanding of laboratory quality control and assurance procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific veterinary diagnostic software.
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology.
  • Experience with molecular diagnostics techniques.
