Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Stable Hand to join our team at Kandanga Valley Stud. This full-time regional position offers an incredible opportunity for individuals passionate about horses and country living. You will be responsible for the daily care and well-being of our horses, ensuring the stables and surrounding areas are maintained to the highest standards. Previous experience with horses is highly regarded. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily feeding and watering of horses according to their specific dietary needs.
  • Clean and maintain stables, paddocks, and other equine facilities.
  • Groom, rug, and prepare horses for daily activities or turnout.
  • Assist with handling and moving horses safely.
  • Monitor horses for any signs of injury, illness, or behavioral changes and report to management.
  • Maintain equipment and tack in good working order.
  • Assist with general property maintenance as required, including fencing and groundskeeping.
  • Undertake basic first aid for horses when necessary.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in horse handling and care (minimum 12 months).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of horse health and welfare.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal equine qualification (e.g., Certificate in Equine Studies).
  • Experience with a variety of horse breeds or disciplines.
  • Knowledge of stable management best practices.
  • Competence in operating farm machinery (e.g., tractors, quad bikes).
