Job Description
This internship offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about healthcare administration and information management to gain hands-on experience in clinical coding. As a Clinical Coder Intern at Gladstone Hospital, you will learn the essential skills required to accurately translate medical documentation into standardised codes, contributing directly to patient data integrity, billing processes, and healthcare statistics. This role is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and accuracy of our hospital administration. You will work closely with experienced clinical coders and health information managers, providing an invaluable foundation for a career in health information management. This position is an on-site role, providing direct exposure to a hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in reviewing patient medical records and documentation.
- Learn and apply international classification systems (e.g., ICD-10-AM, ACHI, ACS) under supervision.
- Accurately assign diagnostic and procedural codes for patient encounters.
- Ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality assurance activities and data validation.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to clarify documentation as needed.
- Contribute to maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of health information.
- Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance coding knowledge and skills.
