Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Field Service Technician – Heavy Machinery to join our dynamic team in Midrand, Gauteng. This role involves performing diagnostics, maintenance, repairs, and overhauls on a wide range of Caterpillar heavy machinery, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and graders, at client sites across the region. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service while adhering to strict safety standards. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on heavy machinery.
- Perform preventative maintenance, routine servicing, and scheduled inspections to ensure optimal equipment performance and longevity.
- Execute engine overhauls, transmission repairs, and component replacements on various heavy equipment models.
- Utilize specialized diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
- Complete accurate service reports, timesheets, and expense reports in a timely manner.
- Provide technical support and guidance to clients regarding equipment operation and maintenance best practices.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain service vehicle, tools, and equipment in excellent working condition.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with product advancements and service techniques.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Field Service Technician or similar role working with heavy machinery (e.g., Caterpillar, Komatsu, Volvo).
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and powertrains.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software for heavy equipment.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-centric approach.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a field environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification (e.g., Diesel Mechanic, Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic).
- Experience with Caterpillar specific diagnostic software (e.g., ET, SIS).
- Certification in specific heavy equipment brands or technologies.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in heavy industry.
- Basic computer proficiency for report writing and data entry.
