Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically fit Cattle Yard Assistant with proven livestock experience to join our team in Townsville. This role is crucial to the efficient and humane handling of cattle within our yards, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to all animal welfare standards. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the movement, drafting, and loading of cattle in a safe and efficient manner.
- Monitor livestock for signs of illness or injury and report findings to supervisors.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of cattle yards, pens, and equipment.
- Operate basic machinery and equipment as required (e.g., side-by-sides, small tractors).
- Assist with routine yard maintenance and repairs.
- Adhere strictly to all animal welfare protocols, safety procedures, and company policies.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 12 months experience working with cattle or other large livestock.
- Demonstrated understanding of animal welfare principles and safe handling techniques.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Reliable and punctual with a commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current driver's license (manual preferred).
- First Aid certification.
- Experience operating quad bikes or side-by-sides.
- Knowledge of basic livestock health and husbandry practices.
