Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Fitter and Turner to join our dynamic engineering team in Karratha. This role involves the fabrication, assembly, and maintenance of mechanical components and machinery essential to our large-scale projects in the resources and energy sectors. The successful candidate will be proficient in reading technical drawings, operating various workshop machinery, and ensuring high standards of precision and quality in all work performed. This is an on-site role requiring a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Operate and maintain a range of workshop machinery, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other fabrication equipment.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and fit parts for machinery, equipment, and structures.
  • Perform precision machining operations to exact tolerances.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Ensure all work adheres to safety standards, quality control procedures, and project timelines.
  • Work collaboratively with other tradespersons and engineering teams.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area.

Required Skills

  • Trade qualification as a Fitter and Turner or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in heavy industrial or mining environments.
  • Proficiency in operating manual and CNC lathes, milling machines, and grinding equipment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
  • Excellent understanding of measurement tools and techniques.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures and practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Confined Space Entry certification.
  • Working at Heights certification.
  • Forklift license.
  • Experience with advanced welding techniques (e.g., TIG, MIG).
