Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic Lead specializing in Earthmoving equipment to join our dynamic team in Innisfail. This leadership role involves overseeing a team of mechanics, ensuring the efficient and effective diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a diverse fleet of Caterpillar earthmoving machinery. You will be responsible for upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity, while also providing technical guidance and mentorship to your team. Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Heavy Duty Mechanics, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on complex hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems of earthmoving equipment, including excavators, dozers, loaders, and graders.
- Plan and coordinate maintenance schedules, ensuring timely and efficient completion of service and repair work.
- Ensure all work is completed in strict adherence to manufacturer specifications, company policies, and relevant safety regulations.
- Manage work orders, track parts inventory, and maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities.
- Provide expert technical support and guidance to junior mechanics, assisting them in complex diagnostic and repair tasks.
- Conduct thorough preventative maintenance inspections and proactively identify potential mechanical issues.
- Collaborate with service managers and parts departments to optimize workflow and customer satisfaction.
- Continuously stay updated with industry advancements, new technologies, and Caterpillar product developments.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 6 years proven experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic, with a significant focus on earthmoving equipment.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a mechanical workshop or field service environment.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities across hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics and technical manuals.
- Holds a valid Heavy Vehicle Mechanic / Diesel Mechanic trade qualification.
- Current Australian driver's license (manual preferred).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience specifically with Caterpillar earthmoving equipment and diagnostic tools (e.g., ET, SIS).
- Post-trade qualifications or certifications in specific machinery types or diagnostic specializations.
- Current Forklift and/or EWP license.
- HR or MC class driver's license.
- First Aid and/or CPR certification.
