Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Stable Hand to join our team at Living Legends in Werribee. This full-time, on-site role requires an individual with a genuine love for horses and a strong work ethic, ready to embrace early morning starts. You will be instrumental in the daily care and maintenance of our beloved champion racehorses, ensuring their comfort, health, and happiness. Key Responsibilities

  • Daily feeding and watering of horses according to specific diets.
  • Mucking out stables, maintaining clean and hygienic living environments.
  • Grooming horses and monitoring their general health and wellbeing, reporting any concerns to management.
  • Tacking up and untacking horses for exercise or public appearances.
  • Assisting with veterinary care, farrier visits, and other equine health treatments.
  • Maintaining tidiness of the stable area, feed rooms, and equipment.
  • Assisting with pasture management and fence checks.
  • Handling horses safely and confidently, adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Working effectively as part of a team and independently.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated passion for horses and animal welfare.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Reliability and punctuality, especially for early morning shifts.
  • Basic understanding of horse behaviour and care.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 months experience working with horses in a stable or farm environment.
  • Formal qualification in equine studies, animal care, or a related field.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Experience handling retired racehorses or thoroughbreds.
  • Current valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
