Job Description

Join Elders, a cornerstone of Australian agribusiness, as a Livestock Agent in Adelaide, SA. This is a dynamic, commission-driven role ideal for a passionate and driven individual with a strong understanding of the livestock industry and exceptional sales capabilities. You will be instrumental in connecting buyers and sellers, providing expert advice, and facilitating successful livestock transactions, contributing significantly to our clients’ and our company’s success. This role requires a proactive approach to business development, building enduring client relationships, and staying abreast of market trends. While based in Adelaide, the role will involve extensive travel within the surrounding rural regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with livestock producers and buyers.
  • Actively source and market livestock for sale through various channels (saleyards, online, paddock sales).
  • Conduct property visits to assess livestock, provide expert advice, and negotiate sales.
  • Prepare and present detailed market reports, sale results, and client proposals.
  • Manage all aspects of livestock sales, including pre-sale preparation, transport, and post-sale follow-up.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant industry regulations, animal welfare standards, and company policies.
  • Expand client base through proactive networking, cold calling, and referrals.
  • Achieve and exceed sales targets and commission goals.
  • Represent Elders at industry events, field days, and community gatherings.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in sales, preferably within the agricultural or livestock sector (2+ years).
  • Deep understanding of the Australian livestock industry, including breeds, markets, and management practices.
  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong ability to build rapport and cultivate professional relationships.
  • High level of self-motivation, drive, and resilience.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License and willingness to travel extensively.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Agricultural Science, Rural Business, or a related field.
  • Existing network of contacts within the South Australian livestock community.
  • Experience with digital livestock selling platforms.
  • Knowledge of rural property sales or other agribusiness sectors.
