Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and customer-focused Railway Station Assistant to join our team in Newcastle. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of our railway stations, providing excellent service to passengers, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. You will be the front line of our operations, assisting with passenger inquiries, managing station flow, and supporting various operational needs. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist passengers with ticket purchasing, platform directions, and general inquiries.
  • Monitor station platforms and concourse areas to ensure passenger safety and security.
  • Manage passenger flow, particularly during peak hours or special events, to prevent overcrowding.
  • Provide clear and timely announcements regarding train schedules, delays, and service changes.
  • Respond to incidents and emergencies promptly, following established safety protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of station facilities, reporting any maintenance issues.
  • Handle lost and found items according to company procedures.
  • Operate station equipment such as public address systems, escalators, and lifts as required.
  • Collaborate with train crew, control centre, and other station staff to ensure coordinated operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service, hospitality, or public-facing role.
  • Familiarity with public transport systems or railway operations.
  • First Aid certification.
