Job Description

Join our passionate team as a Wildlife Sanctuary Assistant in Swan Hill and contribute directly to the conservation of Victoria’s precious wildlife. This vital role involves hands-on animal care, habitat maintenance, and supporting educational initiatives within our local sanctuary. You will work closely with experienced rangers and volunteers to create a safe and nurturing environment for native animals, assist with rescue and rehabilitation efforts, and ensure the sanctuary operates smoothly. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the daily feeding, cleaning, and general care of sanctuary animals.
  • Monitor animal health and report any concerns or changes to senior staff.
  • Participate in habitat restoration and maintenance activities, including weeding, planting, and enclosure upkeep.
  • Support wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and release programs as directed.
  • Engage with sanctuary visitors, providing information about our animals and conservation efforts.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal care, supplies, and facility conditions.
  • Assist with basic administrative tasks and inventory management.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and animal welfare protocols.

  • Demonstrated passion for wildlife conservation and animal welfare.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate or Diploma in Conservation and Land Management, Animal Studies, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with native wildlife or in an animal care setting.
  • Current First Aid certification.
  • Valid Victorian Driver's License.
