Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Contract Manager to join our Legal & Commercial team in Port Hedland. This critical role involves end-to-end management of complex commercial contracts, ensuring compliance with legal standards, company policies, and operational requirements within our mining and resources operations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in negotiating, drafting, executing, and administering contracts that support our strategic objectives and mitigate risk, playing a key role in our regional operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full contract lifecycle from pre-award to post-award, including negotiation, drafting, execution, and close-out of various commercial agreements.
  • Ensure all contractual arrangements comply with relevant legal frameworks, company policies, and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with procurement, project management, operations, and finance teams to define contract scope, deliverables, and performance metrics.
  • Identify and mitigate contractual risks, providing expert advice and solutions to stakeholders.
  • Lead contract review meetings and performance discussions with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Resolve contractual disputes and claims efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive contract records and databases.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal teams on contract management best practices.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of contract management processes and systems.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in managing complex commercial contracts, preferably within the mining, resources, or heavy industry sectors.
  • Strong understanding of contract law, commercial principles, and risk management.
  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to draft clear, concise, and legally sound contractual documents.
  • Proficiency in contract management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Business, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification (e.g., JD, MBA) or relevant professional certifications (e.g., IACCM, CCLM).
  • Experience with international contracts and cross-cultural negotiation.
  • Knowledge of Australian legal and regulatory environment for mining, particularly in Western Australia.
