Job Description
Are you a highly organized and calm individual with excellent communication skills? Join the vital SA Ambulance Service team as an Ambulance Dispatch Assistant in Mount Gambier. This critical role involves supporting our Ambulance Dispatchers in coordinating emergency and non-emergency patient transport, ensuring timely and appropriate resource allocation. You will be instrumental in the smooth operation of our services, directly contributing to community safety and well-being. We offer a competitive salary with generous weekend penalty rates, reflecting the importance of this round-the-clock service. This is an on-site position based in our Mount Gambier operations center.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Ambulance Dispatchers in managing incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, collecting accurate patient and incident information.
- Support the allocation and dispatch of ambulance resources to incidents based on priority and availability.
- Monitor ambulance movements and status updates using advanced communication systems.
- Maintain accurate records of calls, dispatches, and incident details.
- Provide clear and concise communication to ambulance crews, hospitals, and other emergency services.
- Perform administrative tasks as required to support the dispatch center's operations.
- Adhere to all operational policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Required Skills
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure in emergency situations.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and data entry.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Reliability and flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a dispatch, call center, or emergency services environment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology or public safety protocols.
- A current First Aid certificate.
- Valid driver's license.
