Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Orchard Manager with a strong focus on fruit production to oversee the daily operations of our orchard in Armidale, NSW. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of fruit cultivation, from planting and pest control to harvesting and post-harvest handling, ensuring optimal yield and quality. This role requires a hands-on approach, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of horticultural best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of fruit orchard management, including planting, pruning, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control.
  • Develop and implement seasonal work programs to maximize fruit yield and quality.
  • Manage and supervise a team of orchard staff, including training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Monitor orchard health, soil conditions, and weather patterns to make informed agricultural decisions.
  • Operate and maintain orchard machinery and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain detailed records of orchard activities, production, and inventory.
  • Implement and manage sustainable farming practices.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in orchard management or a similar horticultural role.
  • Strong knowledge of fruit crop cultivation techniques and pest/disease management.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.
  • Proficiency in operating agricultural machinery.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific fruit varieties relevant to the Armidale region (e.g., apples, stone fruit).
  • Knowledge of precision agriculture technologies.
  • First Aid certification.
