Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Public Sector Payroll Support professional to join our team in Melbourne. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical public services by ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for various government departments and agencies. You will play a vital role in the financial operations of our public sector clients, working within a supportive team environment from Monday to Friday. Key Responsibilities

  • Process end-to-end payroll for a portfolio of public sector clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation and awards.
  • Respond to payroll queries from employees and managers in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, including new hires, terminations, leave entitlements, and award changes.
  • Prepare and submit payroll-related reports, including superannuation, PAYG, and other statutory requirements.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end payroll reconciliation and reporting.
  • Interpret and apply relevant industrial awards, agreements, and legislation specific to the public sector.
  • Collaborate with HR and finance teams to ensure seamless information flow and process efficiency.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to payroll processes and systems.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a payroll processing role, preferably within the public sector or a large organization.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Australian payroll legislation, awards, and superannuation requirements.
  • Proficiency with payroll software (e.g., SAP, Workday, Chris21) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Experience with public sector specific payroll systems or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Certification in payroll or a related discipline.
