Job Description

Are you a budding hardware engineer with a passion for bringing electronic designs to life? ResMed is seeking a highly motivated Hardware Engineering Intern with a strong focus on electronics prototyping to join our dynamic R&D team in Thebarton, Adelaide. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the medical device industry, working alongside experienced engineers on real-world projects. You will be instrumental in the assembly, testing, and debugging of prototype electronic circuits, contributing directly to the innovation cycle of life-changing products. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates eager to apply their academic knowledge in a fast-paced, cutting-edge environment and develop practical skills in electronics engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the assembly and soldering of complex electronic prototypes, including surface-mount components (SMD).
  • Perform initial functional testing and debugging of hardware prototypes using various lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers).
  • Document testing procedures, results, and observations clearly and accurately.
  • Support engineers in troubleshooting hardware issues and identifying root causes.
  • Contribute to the procurement and organization of electronic components and lab supplies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including firmware and mechanical engineers, to ensure seamless prototype integration.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and quality standards relevant to medical device development.
  • Learn and apply best practices in electronics design, testing, and documentation.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of analog and digital electronics principles
  • Proficiency in soldering techniques, especially with SMD components
  • Familiarity with common lab equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, power supply)
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and PCB layouts
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with PCB design software (e.g., Altium Designer, Eagle, KiCad)
  • Experience with embedded systems development (e.g., microcontrollers, Raspberry Pi, Arduino)
  • Basic programming skills (e.g., Python, C/C++)
  • Experience with 3D printing or other rapid prototyping methods
  • Demonstrated personal projects involving electronics or hardware development
