Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Humanitarian Aid Worker to join our global team, based administratively out of our Ballina office. This crucial role involves rapid deployment to complex emergencies and protracted crises around the world. The successful candidate will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and managing humanitarian programs, ensuring timely and effective delivery of aid to affected populations. You will work closely with local communities, partners, and international stakeholders to assess needs, develop strategic responses, and monitor project impact, all while upholding Oxfam’s core values and principles. Key Responsibilities
- Lead rapid needs assessments in emergency contexts to inform program design.
- Design, plan, and implement humanitarian aid projects in accordance with Oxfam and international standards (Sphere, CHS).
- Manage project budgets, resources, and timelines effectively, ensuring accountability and compliance.
- Provide technical guidance and capacity building to local staff and partner organizations.
- Ensure robust monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) frameworks are in place and utilized.
- Represent Oxfam Ireland at coordination meetings with UN agencies, NGOs, and local authorities.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on project progress, challenges, and outcomes for donors and internal stakeholders.
- Manage security risks and ensure the safety and well-being of team members in challenging environments.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of affected populations, influencing policy and practice where appropriate.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in humanitarian aid, emergency response, or international development.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, including budget management and donor reporting.
- Strong understanding of humanitarian principles, international humanitarian law, and protection principles.
- Excellent cross-cultural communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in challenging and insecure environments.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate diverse teams.
- Valid driving license and ability to travel extensively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Humanitarian Aid, International Development, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Fluency in additional languages (e.g., French, Arabic, Spanish).
- Experience in specific sectors such as WASH, Food Security, Shelter, or Protection.
- Certification in security management or hostile environment awareness training (HEAT).
- Previous experience working with Oxfam or other major international NGOs.
