Job Description
Are you a motivated civil engineering student looking to gain invaluable hands-on experience in a dynamic construction environment? BMD Group is seeking a Junior Civil Intern for a construction site placement in Townsville, Queensland. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals, contribute to real-world projects, and develop foundational skills crucial for a successful career in civil construction. You will be exposed to various aspects of site operations, project management, and engineering challenges in a supportive learning atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist site engineers and project managers with daily operational tasks.
- Conduct site inspections and quality control checks under supervision.
- Help with data collection, measurement, and documentation of site progress.
- Learn to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and project plans.
- Participate in site meetings, safety briefings, and toolbox talks.
- Support the preparation of reports, schedules, and administrative duties.
- Adhere to all site safety protocols and company policies.
- Collaborate with various team members, including superintendents, foremen, and sub-contractors.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Basic understanding of civil engineering principles and construction methodologies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior exposure to construction sites (e.g., through casual work or school projects).
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Completion of relevant WHS (Work Health and Safety) training.
- Ability to travel to various site locations within the Townsville region.
