Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Energy Market Analyst to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in monitoring, analyzing, and forecasting energy market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscapes within the utilities sector. Your insights will directly support strategic decision-making, optimize energy procurement strategies, and enhance our market position. This is an on-site position based in Bruce, providing an exciting opportunity to contribute to a critical industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze real-time energy market data, including electricity and gas prices, supply, and demand patterns within the National Electricity Market (NEM) and Short Term Trading Market (STTM).
  • Develop and maintain sophisticated analytical models for short-term and long-term energy market forecasting.
  • Assess the impact of regulatory changes, policy developments, and market reforms on ActewAGL's operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior management on identified market opportunities and potential risks.
  • Collaborate closely with trading, risk management, and regulatory affairs teams to support optimal portfolio management and ensure compliance.
  • Conduct comprehensive competitive analysis to identify emerging market trends and competitor strategies.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new market analysis tools and methodologies to enhance forecasting accuracy and efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in energy market analysis, with a minimum of 3 years, ideally within the Australian utilities sector.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with demonstrated proficiency in statistical modeling and data interpretation.
  • Expertise in data analysis tools and languages such as Excel (advanced), SQL, Python, or R.
  • Excellent understanding of Australian energy markets (NEM, STTM) and associated regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to translate complex data and market insights into clear, concise, and actionable recommendations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, or a related quantitative field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in a relevant analytical or quantitative field.
  • Direct experience with energy market simulation software.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy technologies and their integration into existing energy markets.
  • Demonstrated project management experience in an analytical or market-focused role.
