Job Description
The Southern Downs Regional Council is seeking a dedicated and organised School Bus Coordinator to manage and optimise the school bus services across the region. This pivotal role involves overseeing daily operations, ensuring compliance with transport regulations, and serving as the primary liaison between schools, parents, bus operators, and the Council. The successful candidate will be instrumental in maintaining the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our student transport network, directly contributing to the well-being and education of our youth in Stanthorpe and surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and schedule school bus routes, ensuring optimal efficiency and coverage.
- Monitor daily bus operations, addressing any immediate issues or disruptions promptly.
- Act as the primary point of contact for schools, parents, and bus contractors regarding transport inquiries and feedback.
- Ensure all school bus services comply with relevant state and national transport regulations and safety standards.
- Manage and maintain accurate records of routes, schedules, passenger lists, and incident reports.
- Conduct regular reviews of bus services, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
- Assist in the procurement and management of bus service contracts.
- Prepare reports on service performance, incidents, and operational metrics for management.
- Facilitate communication and training for bus operators on Council policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience of 3+ years in transport coordination, logistics, or a similar operational role, preferably within a government or education context.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of liaising effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using scheduling software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Sound understanding of transport safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Ability to solve problems quickly and effectively under pressure.
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience with local government operations or public transport systems.
- Knowledge of the Southern Downs region's geography and road network.
- Familiarity with school transport subsidy schemes.
