Job Description
As a Remote Database Administrator for Secure Corporate IT at AWS, you will be responsible for the health, performance, and security of our critical database systems that underpin our internal corporate operations. This is a 100% remote position where you will play a crucial role in ensuring data integrity, availability, and compliance with the highest security standards. You will manage, monitor, and troubleshoot complex database environments, implement security policies, perform regular backups and recovery, and work closely with development and operations teams to optimize database performance and scalability. Your expertise will be vital in safeguarding AWS’s corporate data assets against evolving threats and maintaining our reputation for unparalleled security.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, monitor, and maintain database systems (both relational and NoSQL) to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability for corporate applications.
- Implement and enforce database security policies, access controls, and encryption methods in line with AWS's stringent security standards and compliance requirements.
- Perform regular database backups, recovery operations, and implement disaster recovery plans to minimize data loss and downtime.
- Proactively monitor database health, troubleshoot issues, and provide timely resolution for incidents and performance bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with engineering, security, and operations teams to design, implement, and optimize database schemas and queries.
- Develop and maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical database support and incident response.
- Stay updated with new database technologies, security vulnerabilities, and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in administering and optimizing relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server) and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB, MongoDB).
- Strong understanding of database security principles, access management, data encryption, and compliance frameworks.
- Experience with cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, DynamoDB, Aurora).
- Solid scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation of database tasks.
- Proven experience with database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Certified Database – Specialty or other relevant AWS certifications.
- Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform) for database provisioning.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and their impact on database deployment.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines in a database context.
- Experience with performance tuning and capacity planning for large-scale database environments.
- Knowledge of IT security best practices and incident response procedures.
