Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Remote Captioning Specialist to join our dynamic team. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to contribute from anywhere within Australia. As a Captioning Specialist, you will be responsible for creating accurate and timely captions for live television broadcasts, digital content, and other media productions. Your work will ensure that our content is accessible to hearing-impaired audiences and those who prefer captions, maintaining our commitment to inclusivity and broadcasting standards. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional listening skills, rapid typing proficiency, and a keen understanding of grammar and punctuation, especially under pressure during live events.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate real-time captions for live television programs, news, sports, and special events with high accuracy.
- Transcribe and create offline captions for pre-recorded content, ensuring synchronization and contextual accuracy.
- Monitor broadcast feeds and adjust captions as necessary to reflect live changes and corrections.
- Adhere to strict deadlines and quality standards for all captioning projects.
- Collaborate with production teams to understand content requirements and specific terminology.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of captioning guidelines, accessibility standards, and industry best practices.
- Utilize specialized captioning software and equipment effectively.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in real-time or offline captioning/transcription, preferably in a media environment.
- Exceptional listening comprehension and attention to detail.
- Typing speed of at least 80 words per minute with high accuracy.
- Proficiency in English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines, especially during live broadcasts.
- Strong technical aptitude for learning and operating captioning software.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection and a dedicated home office setup suitable for remote work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in media, communications, linguistics, or a related field.
- Experience with stenography or voice writing software.
- Familiarity with Australian broadcasting standards and accessibility regulations.
- Previous experience working remotely in a production or media role.
