Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Occupational Hygienist – Environmental to join our dynamic team in Ipswich. This role involves assessing, evaluating, and controlling workplace environmental hazards to protect employee health and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. You will play a crucial part in providing expert advice, conducting surveys, and developing robust management systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive occupational hygiene surveys, including noise, vibration, air quality, hazardous substances, and thermal environments.
  • Evaluate workplace exposures against regulatory standards and best practice guidelines.
  • Develop and implement control strategies to mitigate identified environmental and health risks.
  • Prepare detailed reports, recommendations, and action plans for clients.
  • Provide expert advice on occupational health and environmental issues to clients and internal teams.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training programs related to occupational hygiene.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and budget adherence.

Required Skills

  • Degree in Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in occupational hygiene practice.
  • Strong knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation (e.g., COSHH, Noise at Work Regulations).
  • Proficiency in conducting various environmental monitoring techniques.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Full UK driving license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of a professional qualification (e.g., BOHS P600 series, Diploma of Professional Competence in Occupational Hygiene).
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., BOHS, IOSH).
  • Experience with environmental impact assessments.
  • Client-facing experience in a consultancy environment.
