Job Description
Parks Victoria is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic National Parks Maintenance Hand to join our team in Warrnambool. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals passionate about the outdoors and eager to contribute to the upkeep and preservation of Victoria’s stunning national parks. You will play a vital role in maintaining park infrastructure, ensuring visitor safety, and protecting natural environments, all while learning valuable skills in a supportive team setting. No prior experience is necessary; we provide comprehensive training. This is an on-site position based in Warrnambool, Victoria.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance tasks on park facilities, including trails, picnic areas, campgrounds, and visitor centers.
- Assist with vegetation management, including weeding, planting, and minor pruning.
- Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment safely, under supervision.
- Conduct routine inspections of park infrastructure and report any hazards or maintenance needs.
- Participate in minor construction projects, such as building boardwalks or installing signage.
- Ensure park cleanliness and assist with waste management.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve park management objectives.
Required Skills
- Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to perform physical tasks in various weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of safety practices.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- A genuine interest in environmental conservation and outdoor work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Victorian Driver's License (manual highly regarded).
- Current First Aid certificate.
- Experience with basic hand tools (e.g., shovels, rakes, pruners).
- Knowledge of local flora and fauna.
