Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and empathetic Medical Receptionist to join our busy GP clinic in Bristol immediately. This crucial role is the first point of contact for our patients, requiring exceptional organisational skills, a compassionate approach, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. You will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth daily operation of the reception area, contributing significantly to a positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greeting patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Managing patient appointments, including booking, rescheduling, and cancelling.
  • Answering telephone calls, taking messages, and directing enquiries appropriately.
  • Processing patient registrations and updating medical records accurately.
  • Handling incoming and outgoing mail and faxes.
  • Managing prescription requests and liaising with pharmacies.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Assisting with general administrative tasks as required.
  • Ensuring the reception area is tidy and welcoming.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in IT systems, including medical practice software (e.g., EMIS Web, SystmOne) or similar.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a medical or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
