Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Part-time Library Assistant to join our team, specifically for afternoon shifts in our Tullamarine branch. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives in a calm and organised environment and is passionate about supporting library services. You will be instrumental in maintaining the library’s collection, assisting patrons with basic inquiries, and ensuring the smooth operation of our quiet study and resource areas. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to community learning and engagement within a supportive team structure.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist patrons with basic inquiries, locating materials, and using library equipment.
- Shelve and re-shelve library materials accurately and efficiently, maintaining a tidy collection.
- Process new library items, including stamping, covering, and adding security tags.
- Support the preparation of library displays and promotional materials.
- Ensure the quiet study areas are maintained and conducive to focused work.
- Handle circulation duties, including checking items in and out, and managing holds.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures for the branch during afternoon shifts.
- Participate in general administrative tasks as required.
Required Skills
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with library systems (or willingness to learn).
- A positive attitude and a passion for community service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a library, retail, or customer service role.
- Knowledge of library classifications systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal).
- Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain one.
- Certificate or Diploma in Library and Information Services.
