Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Editor in Chief (Assistant) to join our dynamic publishing team in Belconnen, ACT. This pivotal role supports the Editor in Chief in all aspects of editorial management, content strategy, and project execution. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organisational skills, a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of the publishing landscape, and a passion for compelling storytelling. You will be instrumental in maintaining our high editorial standards, coordinating with authors and internal teams, and contributing to the overall success of our diverse portfolio of publications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Editor in Chief in overseeing editorial processes from manuscript acquisition to publication.
  • Coordinate closely with authors, agents, and internal departments including production, marketing, and sales.
  • Review, edit, and provide constructive feedback on manuscripts for quality, style, and accuracy.
  • Conduct thorough market research to identify emerging trends, potential new authors, and innovative projects.
  • Manage editorial schedules and ensure the timely delivery of projects according to deadlines.
  • Maintain and enforce editorial guidelines and house style across all publications.
  • Prepare comprehensive editorial reports and engaging presentations for internal stakeholders.
  • Support the development and implementation of the company's overarching content strategy.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in an editorial role within the publishing industry (minimum 3 years).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong command of English grammar and style.
  • Superior editorial judgment and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with publishing-specific software.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to tight deadlines.
  • Deep understanding of the Australian publishing market and its unique characteristics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a closely related field.
