Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Water Meter Reader to join our Council Utility Services team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately reading water meters across various residential and commercial properties within the Townsville region. Your work ensures precise billing, helps identify potential leaks, and contributes to the efficient management of our city’s water resources. This position requires someone who enjoys working independently outdoors, has strong attention to detail, and is committed to serving the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately read and record water meter data from assigned routes using handheld devices.
- Navigate routes efficiently and safely, adhering to all traffic and safety regulations.
- Identify and report unusual meter conditions, leaks, tampering, or hazards encountered in the field.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with residents and business owners when necessary.
- Maintain all assigned equipment and vehicles in good working order.
- Adhere to all Council policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Provide excellent customer service while performing duties in the community.
- Assist with other field-based tasks as directed by the supervisor.
Required Skills
- Valid Australian Driver's License (manual transmission preferred)
- Ability to walk long distances and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a daily route efficiently.
- Basic computer literacy for handheld device operation.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to workplace health and safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar field-based role (e.g., delivery driver, postal worker, other utility roles).
- Familiarity with the Townsville geographical area.
- First Aid certification.
- Ability to identify different types of water meters and read them effectively.
