Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Meteorological Assistant to join our team in Footscray, Victoria. This role focuses heavily on the collection, processing, and analysis of weather data, playing a crucial part in supporting the Bureau’s operational services and research initiatives. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of experienced meteorologists and data scientists, contributing to the accuracy and reliability of our meteorological information. This is an on-site position requiring a strong commitment to scientific principles and a meticulous approach to data handling.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain meteorological instruments and observation equipment.
- Collect, record, and verify meteorological data from various sources.
- Perform quality control checks on raw weather data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with the processing and archival of meteorological datasets.
- Generate routine reports and summaries of weather observations and data trends.
- Support meteorologists in data analysis and interpretation for forecasting and research.
- Adhere to strict operational procedures and safety guidelines.
- Participate in training and development activities to enhance meteorological knowledge and skills.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in data entry and data management.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Basic understanding of meteorological principles or related scientific concepts.
- Competency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- A diploma or degree in meteorology, environmental science, geography, physics, or a related scientific field.
- Previous experience working with scientific data or in an observational environment.
- Familiarity with meteorological software or data visualisation tools.
- Knowledge of Australian weather patterns and climate systems.
