Job Description

As a Content Editor at Penguin Random House Australia, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the literary landscape by refining and enhancing manuscripts across various genres. You will work closely with authors and publishing teams to ensure that all published content meets our high standards of quality, accuracy, and engagement. This position requires a keen eye for detail, exceptional editorial judgment, and a deep understanding of the publishing process. You will be responsible for line editing, copyediting, proofreading, and ensuring stylistic consistency, contributing directly to the success of our diverse catalogue.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough line edits, copyedits, and proofreads of manuscripts for grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, and factual accuracy.
  • Collaborate effectively with authors to refine their work while preserving their unique voice and vision.
  • Ensure adherence to house style guides and maintain consistency across all published materials.
  • Manage editorial schedules and deadlines for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Liaise with design, production, and marketing teams throughout the publishing cycle.
  • Provide constructive feedback and editorial suggestions to enhance readability and impact.
  • Verify the accuracy of content, including names, dates, and facts, against reliable sources.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in content editing, copyediting, and proofreading, preferably within a publishing house.
  • Exceptional command of the English language, including grammar, syntax, and vocabulary.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
  • Proficiency with style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style, Australian Style Manual).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
