Job Description
As a Tunnel Control Room Operator, you will be crucial in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our advanced tunnel systems. You will monitor various systems, respond to incidents, and coordinate with emergency services and field teams to maintain seamless traffic flow and public safety within our critical transport infrastructure. This role requires vigilance, quick decision-making, and strong communication skills to manage operational events and support the overarching transport network.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor tunnel systems, including ventilation, lighting, CCTV, and emergency systems, from a central control room.
- Respond promptly and effectively to alarms, incidents, and emergencies, following established protocols and procedures.
- Coordinate with internal teams (maintenance, security) and external agencies (police, fire, ambulance) during incidents to ensure a swift and organised response.
- Operate traffic management systems, including variable message signs (VMS) and lane control signals, to optimize flow and manage incidents.
- Maintain accurate logs and reports of all activities, incidents, and system performance using designated software.
- Conduct regular system checks and escalate technical issues to appropriate support teams for resolution.
- Provide clear and concise information to the public and stakeholders during disruptions, ensuring timely updates.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a control room, monitoring, or dispatch environment.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure during critical incidents.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination.
- Strong computer literacy and ability to operate complex monitoring and SCADA systems.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate III or IV in Control Room Operations or a related technical field.
- Experience with SCADA systems or similar industrial control software in a transport setting.
- Knowledge of local transport regulations and emergency procedures.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
