Job Description
Are you an enthusiastic and driven electrical engineering student looking to gain practical experience in the power industry? SA Power Networks invites you to join our team as a Power Systems Intern with a focus on Electrical Infrastructure. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to real-world projects, learn from experienced engineers, and develop critical skills in electricity distribution, network planning, and asset management. You will work on initiatives vital to ensuring the reliability and modernization of South Australia’s electrical grid.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the analysis and design of electrical distribution systems.
- Support engineers in projects related to network planning, asset upgrades, and maintenance strategies.
- Conduct data analysis to identify trends and optimize network performance.
- Participate in site visits to substations and other network infrastructure (under supervision).
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation.
- Research emerging technologies in renewable energy integration and grid modernization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on various engineering initiatives.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong foundational knowledge of power systems concepts, circuits, and electrical theory.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP).
- Basic understanding of CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD).
- Previous experience with data visualization tools or programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) is a plus.
- Demonstrated interest in renewable energy, smart grids, or sustainable infrastructure.
