Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Child Protection Officer (Trainee) to join our team in Tully. This entry-level role is an exceptional opportunity for individuals passionate about child safety and community welfare, offering comprehensive training and support to develop a career in this vital field. As a Trainee, you will work under supervision, learning to assess the safety and well-being of children and young people, develop and implement safety plans, and engage with families and communities to provide support and resources. This role requires a strong commitment to ethical practice, cultural sensitivity, and a desire to make a positive impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in comprehensive training programs to develop an understanding of child protection legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Assist experienced officers in conducting initial assessments of child safety concerns and risks.
- Under supervision, contribute to the development and implementation of safety and support plans for children and families.
- Engage sensitively and respectfully with children, families, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
- Document case notes, reports, and other administrative tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to coordinate services and support for families.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics and standards at all times.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development activities.

Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field (or working towards one).
- Previous experience (paid or voluntary) working with children, families, or vulnerable populations.
- Understanding of the social, emotional, and cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
- Current Queensland Driver's Licence.
