Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher’s Aide (Special Needs) to join our team at Fortitude Valley State Secondary College. This full-time position is crucial in providing essential support to students with diverse learning needs, enabling them to access and engage with the curriculum effectively. You will work under the direction of teachers, contributing to a positive and inclusive classroom environment. This role involves direct student support, preparation of learning materials, and assisting with various educational activities to foster student independence and achievement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to students with special educational needs, individually or in small groups, as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and differentiated learning strategies.
- Help prepare, adapt, and organize learning materials and resources to suit specific student requirements.
- Support students with personal care, mobility, and communication needs as required, maintaining dignity and respect.
- Assist in monitoring student progress, behavior, and engagement, and provide feedback to teachers.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, breaks, and excursions.
- Collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and other support staff to ensure holistic student support.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience working with children or young people, particularly those with diverse learning needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with special needs.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently under supervision.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or ability to obtain one prior to commencement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate III or IV in Education Support (or equivalent qualification).
- Experience with specific learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or other special needs.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of positive behavior support strategies.
