Job Description

Join Cleanaway as a Hazmat Technician – Environmental Safety and play a critical role in managing hazardous materials and ensuring environmental compliance. This position involves on-site work, handling, identifying, treating, and disposing of hazardous waste materials safely and efficiently. You will be instrumental in upholding our commitment to safety, environmental protection, and regulatory adherence within our Burnie operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely identify, classify, package, and transport hazardous waste materials according to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct on-site assessments and clean-up operations for spills or releases of hazardous substances.
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment for hazardous waste handling and emergency response.
  • Prepare accurate documentation, manifests, and reports for all hazardous waste activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Participate in training and emergency response drills to maintain readiness and proficiency.
  • Provide support for environmental audits and inspections as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in hazardous waste management or environmental safety.
  • Strong understanding of Australian hazardous waste regulations (e.g., EPA guidelines).
  • Ability to wear and work in appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills in high-pressure situations.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean record.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects and work in various environmental conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Dangerous Goods, Confined Space Entry, First Aid).
  • Experience with spill response and remediation techniques.
  • Forklift operator license.
  • Tertiary qualification in environmental science, chemistry, or a related field.
