Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Field Service Technician – Heavy Machinery to join our dynamic team in Bowen, Queensland. In this critical role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of Caterpillar heavy equipment directly at our customers’ sites. This position requires strong technical expertise, a commitment to safety, and excellent problem-solving skills to ensure our customers’ machinery operates at peak performance. Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on Caterpillar heavy machinery, including engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrains.
- Conduct scheduled maintenance and preventative service to ensure optimal equipment performance and longevity.
- Utilize specialized diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
- Complete accurate service reports, timesheets, and other documentation in a timely manner.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company policies, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Communicate effectively with customers, providing professional and clear explanations of repairs and maintenance required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work vehicle and tools.
- Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced technicians when required.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with Caterpillar product advancements.
Required Skills
- Relevant Trade Certificate (e.g., Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Diesel Fitting).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Technician or Diesel Mechanic.
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on heavy machinery.
- Strong understanding of Caterpillar equipment and diagnostic tools (e.g., CAT ET, SIS).
- Valid Australian Driver's License (manual transmission).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Ability to work independently in remote field environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with other heavy equipment brands.
- High Risk Work Licenses (e.g., Forklift, EWP).
- First Aid certification.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer-based diagnostic software.
