Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and reliable individuals to join our waste management team as Council Waste Hands. This full-time position offers a competitive salary and the unique benefit of having your afternoons free, allowing for an excellent work-life balance. As a Council Waste Hand, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and environmental health of Horsham and the surrounding areas. You will be responsible for the efficient collection of waste and recycling, contributing directly to the well-being of our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect household and commercial waste and recycling from designated routes.
  • Operate compaction mechanisms and loading equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Follow specific routes and schedules, ensuring timely completion of collections.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including manual handling procedures and PPE usage.
  • Report any issues, such as missed collections, unsafe items, or damaged bins, to supervisors.
  • Maintain cleanliness of collection vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist with other waste management tasks as required, including street cleansing or bulky item collections.
  • Engage respectfully with members of the public and represent the Council professionally.

  • Basic knowledge of waste segregation and recycling principles.
