Job Description
Join the Mackay Regional Council as a Water Meter Reader and play a vital role in ensuring accurate billing and efficient water management across our diverse community. This essential field-based position requires you to navigate various terrains, interact respectfully with residents, and meticulously record water usage data. You will be an integral part of our Utility Services team, contributing directly to the efficient operation of our water infrastructure and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately read and record water meter data on designated routes within the Mackay region.
- Operate and maintain handheld electronic meter reading devices.
- Identify and report faulty meters, leaks, or other irregularities to supervisory staff.
- Navigate routes efficiently, adhering to schedules and safety protocols.
- Interact professionally and courteously with members of the public.
- Work independently in various weather conditions, ensuring data collection integrity.
- Adhere to all Council safety procedures and WHS guidelines.
Required Skills
- Valid Australian C-class driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to walk long distances and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
- Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read maps and navigate efficiently.
- Basic computer literacy for operating handheld devices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a field-based role or meter reading.
- Familiarity with the Mackay region's geography.
- Knowledge of water utility systems.
- First Aid certification.
