Job Description

As the Drilling Operations Lead – Resource Sector at our Emerald operations, you will be instrumental in overseeing and optimising all drilling activities to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective resource extraction. You will lead a dedicated team, implement best practices, and drive continuous improvement across our drilling programs, contributing directly to the success of our mining projects. This is a critical leadership role requiring a strong technical background in drilling operations and a proven track record in a resource-intensive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead all aspects of drilling operations from planning through execution and post-drilling analysis.
  • Ensure strict adherence to company safety policies, environmental regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor drilling schedules and budgets to achieve production targets.
  • Oversee and mentor a team of drilling professionals, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and other stakeholders to optimize drilling strategies and well design.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify and mitigate operational risks.
  • Manage contractor performance, ensuring compliance with contractual agreements and operational standards.
  • Implement and maintain robust reporting systems for drilling progress, performance, and incidents.
  • Drive innovation in drilling technology and techniques to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Required Skills

  • Extensive experience in drilling operations within the resource sector (mining, oil & gas, or similar).
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience managing operational teams.
  • Strong understanding of drilling techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in operational planning, budgeting, and performance analysis.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving aptitude with a focus on continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., IADC Well Control, Rig Manager certification).
  • Experience with advanced drilling technologies and data analytics platforms.
  • Prior experience working in remote or challenging operational environments.
