Job Description
Hastings Deering is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as a Spare Parts Picker in Bowen. This entry-level position is perfect for someone with a mechanical aptitude or technical training looking to start their career in the heavy equipment industry. You will be responsible for accurately picking, packing, and preparing spare parts for distribution to our valued customers and service technicians. No prior experience is required, as comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided. We are looking for candidates who are eager to learn, detail-oriented, and possess a strong work ethic. This is an excellent opportunity to gain foundational experience in a dynamic warehouse environment and contribute to the efficient operation of our parts department.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately pick and retrieve spare parts from warehouse locations based on picking lists.
- Verify part numbers and quantities to ensure order accuracy.
- Prepare parts for dispatch, including packing, labeling, and staging for delivery.
- Assist with receiving and stocking incoming inventory, ensuring proper storage and rotation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the warehouse.
- Operate forklift or other material handling equipment safely after training (if applicable).
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, contributing to a safe workplace culture.
- Report any discrepancies, damaged parts, or stock inaccuracies to the supervisor promptly.
Required Skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills to read picking lists and count parts.
- Ability to lift and move heavy items (up to 20kg) and perform physical tasks as required.
- Eagerness to learn and develop new skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Good verbal communication skills to interact with team members and supervisors.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- A strong commitment to following safety protocols and maintaining a safe work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a technical or vocational course (e.g., automotive, heavy diesel mechanics, logistics, warehousing).
- Previous experience in a warehouse, retail stockroom, or manual handling role (even if not specifically parts picking).
- Current forklift license (desirable but not essential, comprehensive training will be provided).
- Basic computer skills for inventory lookup and data entry.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude or interest in heavy machinery.
