Job Description
Join Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service as an enthusiastic and compassionate Student Nurse Intern. This unique internship offers invaluable hands-on experience across various clinical areas, including medical, surgical, emergency, and aged care. You will work under the direct supervision of experienced registered nurses, gaining practical skills, clinical knowledge, and a deep understanding of the healthcare environment. This program is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice, preparing you for a successful career in nursing.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist registered nurses with patient care activities, including personal hygiene, mobility, and feeding.
- Observe and learn from experienced healthcare professionals in diverse clinical settings.
- Maintain accurate patient records and assist with documentation under supervision.
- Monitor vital signs and report any changes or concerns to the nursing team.
- Participate in ward rounds and team meetings, contributing to patient care planning.
- Adhere to all WBHHS policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Provide compassionate support and communication to patients and their families.
- Engage actively in learning opportunities and seek feedback for professional growth.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Nursing program (or equivalent).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a patient-centred approach.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Current First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic clinical environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting (e.g., volunteer, Assistant in Nursing).
- Understanding of ethical and legal considerations in nursing practice.
- Specific interest in a particular clinical area (e.g., paediatrics, critical care).
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems.
