Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Gaming & Liquor Inspector to join our State Compliance team based in Laverton. This crucial role involves conducting inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with the Gambling Regulation Act 2003 and the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998 across various licensed venues. You will be instrumental in upholding regulatory standards, identifying non-compliance, and contributing to the responsible operation of gaming and liquor establishments within Victoria. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to public safety and regulatory integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting proactive and reactive inspections of gaming and liquor licensed premises.
- Investigating alleged breaches of legislation, license conditions, and regulatory requirements.
- Gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing detailed reports and briefs of evidence.
- Issuing warnings, infringement notices, and making recommendations for regulatory action.
- Providing education and advice to licensees and the public regarding compliance obligations.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies.
- Attending and representing the VCGLR in court or tribunal proceedings as required.
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation of all inspection and investigation activities.
- Identifying and reporting emerging trends or risks within the gaming and liquor industries.
- Participating in training and professional development to stay current with legislation and best practices.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience in a regulatory compliance, investigation, or enforcement role.
- Thorough understanding of relevant legislation (Gambling Regulation Act 2003, Liquor Control Reform Act 1998) or a proven ability to quickly assimilate complex legal frameworks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and interviewing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in challenging environments.
- Proficiency in using IT systems for record keeping and reporting.
- Current Victorian Driver's License.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required for inspections.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification in law, criminology, public policy, or a related field.
- Experience working within a government or statutory authority.
- Knowledge of administrative law principles and natural justice.
- Experience in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
