Job Description

Are you looking to kickstart your career in construction with a focus on safety? Downer Group is seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious individual to join our team in Ballarat as an Excavator Spotter. This entry-level position offers full, comprehensive training to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to ensure safe excavation operations. As an Excavator Spotter, you will play a critical role in guiding heavy machinery, identifying potential hazards, and maintaining a secure work environment on our project sites. This is an on-site position where your vigilance and clear communication will be paramount to project success and team safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a vigilant observer for excavator operations, ensuring clear visibility for the operator and awareness of surrounding personnel and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with excavator operators using established hand signals, radio, and verbal cues to guide machine movements.
  • Identify and report potential hazards, underground services, and obstacles within the excavation zone.
  • Enforce strict safety protocols and exclusion zones around heavy machinery.
  • Conduct pre-start checks and assist with site setup as required.
  • Maintain clear communication channels with site supervisors and other team members.
  • Participate actively in safety briefings and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure compliance with all WHS regulations and company safety policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Construction Induction White Card (or ability to obtain prior to commencement).
  • Basic understanding of construction site operations.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Previous experience working in an outdoor or physical role.
