Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Certified Dog Trainer with a strong behavioural focus to join our Hervey Bay team. This role involves working closely with pet owners and their dogs to address a variety of behavioural challenges, promote positive reinforcement techniques, and foster stronger human-animal bonds. You will conduct individual consultations, lead group classes, and develop tailored training plans to help dogs overcome issues such as anxiety, aggression, reactivity, and basic obedience. A deep understanding of canine ethology and modern, science-based training methods is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive behavioural assessments for dogs, identifying underlying causes of issues.
  • Design and implement individualized training and modification plans using positive reinforcement.
  • Lead group obedience classes for various skill levels and age groups.
  • Provide clear, concise, and empathetic guidance to pet owners on training techniques and behavioural management.
  • Educate clients on canine body language, learning theory, and responsible pet ownership.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of client progress and training protocols.
  • Collaborate with veterinary staff to ensure integrated care for pets with medical and behavioural needs.
  • Stay current with the latest research and best practices in dog training and behaviour modification.
  • Promote Greencross Vets' services and uphold our high standards of animal welfare.

Required Skills

  • Dog Trainer Certification from a recognised institution (e.g., CCPDT, KPA-CTP, PPG, IAABC).
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in dog training with a strong focus on behavioural modification.
  • Demonstrated expertise in positive reinforcement, force-free training methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a patient, empathetic approach.
  • Proficiency in creating and delivering engaging training curricula.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced certification in canine behaviour consulting (e.g., CBCC-KA, CDBC).
  • Experience working within a veterinary clinic environment.
  • Knowledge of animal first aid and CPR.
  • Experience with diverse dog breeds and behavioural challenges.
  • Public speaking or presentation experience.
