Job Description

Join HDR, Inc., a global leader in engineering and architecture, as a Dam Maintenance Hand. We are looking for dedicated individuals to support our critical infrastructure projects across the regional area of Portland, Oregon. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to vital water management and safety initiatives, ensuring the longevity and operational efficiency of our dam structures. Tools and equipment will be provided, and regional travel within the Portland metropolitan and surrounding areas will be a regular part of this role. As a Dam Maintenance Hand, you will be an integral part of our team, performing essential upkeep and minor repair tasks on various dam facilities. Your work will directly impact public safety and environmental sustainability. We value teamwork, safety, and a proactive approach to maintaining our infrastructure to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections of dam structures and associated facilities to identify signs of wear, damage, or potential issues.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks including debris removal, vegetation control, minor concrete patching, and fence repair.
  • Assist in the operation of gates, valves, and other mechanical components under supervision.
  • Operate various hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Support skilled tradespersons and engineers with specialized maintenance and repair projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and material usage.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Participate in emergency response drills and actual responses as required.
  • Travel regionally to different dam sites as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions, including lifting heavy objects, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems and construction principles.
  • Strong commitment to safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record, as regional travel is required.
  • Excellent attention to detail and observational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in construction, groundskeeping, facility maintenance, or a related field.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, skid steers) or power tools.
  • Knowledge of dam operations or water resource management.
  • Certification in first aid and CPR.
