Job Description

The Creative Arts Student Placement – Gallery Focus offers an exceptional opportunity for an aspiring arts professional to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic regional art gallery and museum. This placement is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to gallery operations, exhibition development, collection management, and public engagement within a supportive and educational environment. Students will work closely with experienced gallery staff, contributing to key projects and learning foundational skills crucial for a career in the arts and cultural sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, installation, and de-installation of exhibitions.
  • Support the documentation and management of the gallery's art and historical collections.
  • Aid in the development and delivery of public programs, workshops, and educational activities.
  • Contribute to gallery communications, including social media content creation and visitor engagement.
  • Conduct research related to artworks, artists, and regional history.
  • Provide administrative support to gallery staff as required.
  • Engage with visitors, answering questions and enhancing their gallery experience.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Fine Arts, Art History, Museum Studies, Cultural Studies, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated passion for the arts, culture, and heritage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous volunteer or work experience in a gallery, museum, or cultural institution.
  • Basic understanding of art handling and preservation principles.
  • Experience with content creation for social media or marketing.
  • Familiarity with collection management software (e.g., Vernon CMS, EMu).
